Life memberships awarded

At its Annual General Meeting in early August, the Shepparton Beefsteak & Burgundy Club had the rare honour of awarding Life Memberships to two long-serving members: Dr Chris Bell and James Cloney.

Chris Bell, a local dentist and passionate wine enthusiast, has been a member of the club since 1989. Over the decades, he has held every major committee role and has been a consistent contributor to the life and leadership of the club. His appointment as Life Member recognises more than 30 years of dedicated involvement.

Fellow inductee James Cloney, a retired accountant, was also named a Life Member at the AGM. James has served the club faithfully for many years as treasurer, bringing both diligence and good humour to the role.

These appointments are particularly notable as Life Membership is rarely awarded. Since the club’s founding in 1960, only three members have received this honour. The first was Dr Roger Key, a local doctor who remains an active and valued participant in club life.

The meeting also marked the retirement of Bob Shields from his role as Wine Master after eight years of service. Bob’s contribution to the club’s tasting programs and wine selections has been widely appreciated by all members.

The Shepparton Chapter continues to be led by president Minn Innes-Iron, under whose stewardship the club remains a thriving community of food and wine lovers.
